From the days of the Sullivan Principles and divestment, South Africa has always been at the forefront of what sustainability means to the private sector. Former President Mandela called on business to proactively support the human development of the country; the Kind Codes of Corporate Governance were unprecedented; and, the National Development Plan was groundbreaking in its identification of South Africa's sustainable development needs. Yet, corporate scandals abound, and we are further behind achieving the goals of the NDP than when the plan was published.

What has gone wrong, and how do we set about fixing it?

Alex Hetherington will take us through the key moments in South Africa's sustainable development journey and discuss how to get it back on track.
